Long Beach Yacht Club Renovation Plans Underway
Clubhouse Receives Approval by Community, Strategic Planning Committees
August 21, 2023
Conceptual plans for the Long Beach Yacht Club revitalization and expansion have been submitted to the city of Long Beach for Planning and Coastal Commission approval.

Proposed plans for the interior and exterior remodel and addition totaling over 41,000 square feet include a new resort pool with pool house building and amenities; 2,600 square-foot fitness center/flex space; and major renovations to the existing two-story clubhouse including dining areas, kitchen, bar, lounge, meeting rooms, library, and offices.

Located on the southeast corner of Naples Island on Alamitos Bay in Long Beach, California, the Long Beach Yacht Club was established in 1929, and is recognized as a leading club in the international yachting community for its commitment to excellence in yacht racing and innovation in race management. The Club’s signature event: the Congressional Cup, is the preeminent match racing regatta in the United States and is known as the Gateway to America’s Cup. In addition to hosting local, national, and international yachting events, the Club’s member families enjoy a year-round calendar of social, yachting, and junior activities at its clubhouse.

The Club's Forward & Strategic Planning Committee (FSPC) and Community Outreach group have approved initial plans for renovations and enhancements. Entitlement efforts continue on track, and Planning Staff intends to recommend the project for approval by the City Planning Commission in the near future. Construction is expected to be complete by 2025, with an eye toward welcoming the Olympic Yachting World during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Master planning and architectural design by Michael Kollin, Brian Husting, and Bryan Pliez - Kollin Altomare Architects; Interior design by RVD Associates (Rodrigo Vargas Design).
