AIA 2019 Conference on Architecture
Las Vegas Convention Center
"Blueprint for a Better Future"
"Blueprint for a Better Future"
June 6, 2019
Six members of our firm attended today's AIA Conference on Architecture 2019 in Las Vegas. This year's theme is "Blueprint for a Better Future." Designing a better future means taking on the critical challenges facing cities—and our world—today.
Beyond its excess, extremes, and appetite for the ersatz, Las Vegas is a global pioneer in design. Its ever-changing landscape is an incubator for the kind of transformation that influences architecture and design trends the world over. And with tens of millions of visitors each year, Las Vegas is boldly on display. Not just the casinos and nightlife, but the community centers, parks, apartment buildings, hospitals, schools, and art installations that are part of people’s everyday lives. This work is a testimony to how architects are designing a better future for everyone.
Conferences by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) never fail to provide us with actionable insights to inspire our projects and our practice, from some of the most creative architects, designers, firms, and futurists.
Some of the topics being discussed in the programming sessions: artificial intelligence, data visualization, 3D concrete printing, Amazon Spheres, tall wood, nano-grid condos, immigrant architects, overcoming houselessness, the latest in WELL design, the energy-hog myth, designing border crossings and ports of entry, zero net energy affordable housing, new codes and standards, and architecture tours of local standouts like Frank Gehry’s Lou Ruvo Brain Center, Seven Magic Mountains, and the Downtown Container Park.
