May 18, 2023
The Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort, Autograph Collection at Frenchman's Reef opened its doors on May 18th offering travelers a distinct beachfront experience in St. Thomas.

Part of an extensive $425 million rebuild project at Frenchman’s Reef, the intimate resort was designed to offer a pure island escape and open-air paradise a stone’s throw away from the sand and turquoise waters of St. Thomas. Buoy Haus encompasses 94 guestrooms including two suites, and amenities encompassing a vibrant mix of four beach and poolside bars and restaurants, an infinity-edge waterfront pool with a swim-up bar, a health club, and 13,000-square-feet of meeting and event space.

Guests of Buoy Haus will also enjoy full access to the distinct amenities available at its adjoining resort, The Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman’s Reef, also designed by Kollin Altomare, opening shortly after Buoy Haus. After nearly six years of meticulous and sensitive rebuilding and design efforts, Frenchman’s Reef has evolved into an idyllic Caribbean getaway destination, offering two distinct yet interconnected resort experiences for travelers visiting St. Thomas.

"We're thrilled to be involved in making our client's vision a reality by restoring this iconic Caribbean property and crafting a brand-new island experience for guests," stated Michael Kollin, president & CEO of Kollin Altomare Architects.

Working with Fortress Investment Group and Aimbridge Hospitality, Kollin Altomare Architects' project team (headed by Michael Kollin, Paul Altomare, and Mike Dalezman) led the design team, supported by key consultants including The Johnson Studio; culinary and public spaces concepted by Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence; Curry Spa Consulting, Inc., food service by Bowden Associates; Lighting Design Studio; Whitespace Interiors; landscape by EDSA, Inc.; Aqua Design International; IMEG; MEP by HPL & Associates; and construction by Project Development Services, Inc. (PDSI).
