Columbia’s First Four-Star Hotel
Hotel Anthem, Tapestry Boutique Brand Receives Zoning Approval
August 20, 2019
The Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals approved plans for a height variance paving the way for Columbia's first four-star hotel in South Carolina. Hotel Anthem, a boutique inspired Hilton Tapestry hotel will be constructed in Columbia's entertainment district of Vista at 800 Gervais Street.

In the heart of Columbia, the Vista is adjacent to the South Carolina State House and the University of South Carolina, and home to the South Carolina State Museum, the largest museum in the Southeast.

“We're pleased to be working with the Arnold Companies and CREDE on the design of such an important project aimed at enhancing the overall lifestyle and energy of the Downtown Vista district, and to be creating something unlike anything existing in Columbia,” said Michael Kollin, president and CEO of Kollin Altomare Architects.

The design theme for the new 11-story, full-service upscale Hotel Anthem will be musically inspired and feature 150 spacious high-tech rooms in conjunction with a rooftop bar and terrace, a lobby level restaurant and bar along with an underground speakeasy. The hotel will be built behind the existing railroad depot and will include pedestrian plazas and walkways to music venues and the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

In addition to contributing to the quality of life in the Columbia area, the $40 million investment in the hotel will create approximately 300 construction jobs, and upon completion will generate about 125 permanent service-related jobs.

Project design team members include Brian Husting, Bryan Pliez, and Reed Canova.
